Do you constantly see posts on LinkedIn from the same people? Would you like to transform your LinkedIn news feed and engage with more people in your network?
Like most people, I irregularly reach out to my extended network on LinkedIn by writing a post or an article. Sometimes you get good engagement, other times it is like you are talking to yourself.
This week I did something a bit different. I went through my entire network on LinkedIn and sent a personal message to a large percentage of my contacts.
Today, my news feed is transformed, I am seeing posts from people that I haven’t spoken to for a long time and I decided to do a bit of research on the LinkedIn news feed algorithm.
According to several sources, the algorithm prioritizes content from users who you have engaged with in the past, and who post consistently.
It also prioritizes content from users who get large amounts of engagement, even if you don’t tend to like or comment on their posts
It prioritizes lengthy comments over a high volume of reactions, i.e. deeper engagement than a simple ‘like’
It does not prioritize content from business pages over individuals
The message I sent out this week was a combination of “Hi, hope you are OK” and a plug for work – as a self-employed consultant, the majority of my work comes from my own network or personal referrals.
I’ve done this before, but this time, I went back further into my past and messaged contacts that I have had limited contact with for years. What is surprising is the amount of replies I have had that seem genuinely glad to hear from me, even after years.
The moral of this post is keep engaging with your network. It can be hard and time consuming, but I hope it will be beneficial.
Firstly, from seeing the interesting posts some people are making that I would have normally missed and secondly (hopefully) I’ll end up working again with some old network contacts.
No matter what I have transformed my LinkedIn news feed and I look forward to continuing the engagement
